From Street to School

School is a luxury when survival is your goal. We help children gain recognised qualifications to help build their future. Some attend our special school, others join vocational courses and attend local schools. We help all of them gain recognised qualifications to build their future. You could pay for a place in school for a month for a child who might otherwise be excluded from education because of HIV or other handicaps. 

Frederick's Story...

My Dad was an alcoholic. My Mum tried to scratch together a living on the city dump, scavenging for food and items to sell to survive. The stench of the dump hits you several hundred yards down the road from its site but this sensation is nothing compared to the fear I felt of my Mum and other adults.If I did anything wrong in their eyes, they would resort to violence. I ran away but I kept going back till I was hurt so badly I couldn't go back any more if I wanted to live. So I was a street child. Everyone knows you are a street child when you live rough on the streets, but no-one asks you why. Except the street team. They took me to their day centre and I was able to move into the boys' home. They sent me to school. I was top of my class one year and someone from the USA has offered to give me a scholarship to study to go to school.
