Freedom from drugs

Numbing the pain of their existence through substance abuse, street children need intensive support to break the habit. We offer them a safe and loving environment for this process, in beautiful countryside away from the temptations of city life. The process normally takes three months, when the children are ready to take a place in a home. 

Maria’s story...

My name is Maria and I am 13. I was one of only a few children in my area who were able to go to school. I went to school for four years but then I started doing drugs and stopped going to school. I didn’t realise how stupid this was till I met the high risk team. They showed me what happens if you keep taking drugs and I started to realise if I don’t continue my studies I won’t get a good job and will always be very poor. So now I am back at school.

Carlos (15) from Esfuerzo was an alcoholic with a reckless lifestyle. The high risk team helped him to consider his future and persuaded him to get an education. He has changed his lifestyle, giving up drinking alcohol and theft, in response to the intervention of the social worker and teachers on the high risk team.
